A porch, terrace or veranda makes a country house truly comfortable. But a wrong attachment causes cracks, leaks and headaches. Here's how to do it right.

Porch, terrace and veranda must stand on their own foundation, not rigidly tied to the house. The house (80–150 t) settles much more than a 3–5 t terrace — rigid coupling guarantees cracks.
An expansion joint — 20–30 mm gap between the wall and the addition, filled with elastic sealant (silicone, polyurethane) or vilaterm — lets each move independently.

Most leak-prone spot. The right solution:
Z-shaped flashing inserted into a 20–30 mm wall chase
Polyurethane or silicone sealant in the chase before the flashing
Waterproofing tape under the flashing
Roof slope ≥10° (metal tile) or ≥5° (membrane)
Never just press the roof to the wall and smear sealant — it will leak in a year. Chase + flashing + sealant is the only reliable way.
