A drainage system is not decoration but a critical structure that protects facades, blind area and foundation from rain and meltwater. In the Leningrad Region with 600–750 mm of annual precipitation and 50–70 freeze-thaw cycles per season, a properly chosen and installed gutter system is mandatory for building longevity.

For our region metal systems are preferable due to their resistance to temperature swings and snow/ice loads. PVC remains a budget option for dachas and small houses.

Gutter 125 mm / pipe 90 mm — for slopes up to 100 m².
Gutter 150 mm / pipe 100 mm — for slopes over 100 m² or heavy precipitation.
Gutter slope — 3–5 mm per metre toward the funnel.
Funnel spacing — no more than 10 m apart.
Bracket pitch — every 60 cm for PVC, 60–90 cm for metal.
Gutter position — roof edge enters gutter by 1/3 of its width.
Frequent zero crossings clog funnels with ice and form dangerous icicles. A heated system uses cables in gutters (30–60 W/m) and pipes (30–40 W/m) with a smart thermostat (+5 to −10 °C with moisture sensor). Cost: 25 000–45 000 ₽ for materials, 15 000–25 000 ₽ for installation.
