Home electrics underpin both comfort and safety. Mistakes cause fires, electric shock and expensive rework. Let's cover every stage — from grid connection to the last outlet — tailored to Leningrad Region country building.
Standard allocation in the Leningrad Region is 15 kW three-phase (380 V). Enough for a 150–200 m² house without electric heating. For electric boilers and saunas — 20–30 kW may be needed. Three-phase beats single-phase: balanced loads, smaller entry cable.
Connection via Rosseti Lenenergo. Technical connection fee up to 15 kW: from 550 ₽ (subsidised) to 50 000 ₽. Wait time 4–12 months.
Main breaker — 25–40 A three-phase
Meter — three-phase, multi-tariff; dual-tariff mandatory with electric heating, 5 000–12 000 ₽
Voltage relay — protects against surges/sags, 4 000–8 000 ₽ per phase
Circuit breakers — sized to cable: 10 A / 1.5 mm², 16 A / 2.5 mm², 25 A / 4 mm², 32 A / 6 mm²
RCD / RCBO — 30 mA for living areas, 10 mA for bathrooms and children's rooms
VVGng-LS — copper, vinyl, flame-retardant, low smoke — the residential standard, 30–120 ₽/m. NYM — European triple-insulated, easier to install, 50–170 ₽/m.

A 100 m² house typically has 12–20 circuits.
TT — own grounding loop, recommended for the Leningrad Region where overhead lines are patchy; needs RCDs everywhere. TN-C-S — neutral split into N and PE at the entry, needs a reliable PEN.
Loop: three 2.5–3 m steel rods in a triangle 2–3 m apart, joined by 40×4 mm strip. Target resistance ≤ 30 Ω (TT) or ≤ 10 Ω (TN-C-S). Cost 8 000–20 000 ₽.
The wooden frame is combustible. Per PUE, wiring over combustibles must run in steel pipes or metal corrugation (80–200 ₽/m), non-combustible PVC trunking with VVGng-LS, or open on insulators. Most Leningrad Region frame houses use non-combustible corrugation inside walls — VVGng-LS only, no wire-nut joints buried in walls, all junctions in accessible boxes.
Overloaded circuits — nuisance trips, heated cable, fire risk
No RCDs — false economy on safety
Wrong cable — PUNP (banned since 2007), undersized aluminium, no ng-LS
Poor joints — wire nuts instead of Wago, mixing copper with aluminium
